20TH WORLD SCOUT JAMBOREE

The international leadership of the Boy Scouts of America is busy planning the details surrounding the 20th World Scout Jamboree.

Scheduled to be held at a site near Sattahip, Thailand (Sattahip is about a two-hour drive from Bangkok), the theme for this worldwide event is "Share Our World, Share Our Cultures." It is anticipated that some 30,000 Scouts and leaders from around the world will participate in this world Scout jamboree.

The Boy Scouts of America's contingent, under the leadership of National Commissioner Rick Cronk, will number close to 1,000 participants. Scouts attending the jamboree will enjoy a post-jamboree tour of popular sights in and around Bangkok before making their 22-hour flight back to the United States.

There are plans underway to provide a leader's tour to the jamboree site. The tour is designed for those BSA leaders and their spouses who would like to see the jamboree up close. The tour will depart on December 28, 2002, and will return on or about January 5, 2003. Additional information is available by contacting the BSA International Division, 972-580-2401.

INTERNATIONAL RESOURCES ON THE WORLD-WIDE-WEB

INTERNATIONAL RESOURCES ON THE PINE TREE WEB

The following links reference some of the works by Mr. Lewis Orans (Houston, TX, USA). As the creator of the Pine Tree Web, Lew is unquestionably the Internet's foremost chronicler of World-Wide Scouting. Lew writes: "The focus of the Pine Tree Web is on my particular interests in Scouting. These include: the life and career Sir Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the World Scout Movement; materials on leadership development, including both Wood Badge and Junior Leader training; the heritage, history and traditions of Scouting; and, World Scouting, with a particular emphasis on Scouting in Eastern Europe and Russia. The Pine Tree Web hosts the official newsletters or home pages of three Russian Scouting organizations, NORS, ORUR and the Saint Vladimir Union of Russian Scouts, the newsletter of Plast-Scouting in Ukraine and a home page for the Yugoslav Scout Association."

The following links point to but five of the Pine Tree Web's over 400 pages. Check these out! You might find that you stay there for a while!
