| JAMBOREE ON THE AIR October 17-19, 2008 |
|
The Jamboree On The Air is an international meeting of Scouts from around the world over the HAM radio network. This will be the 51st annual Jamboree and is open to all members of a Scouting organization world wide. This unique event started in 1957 brings young people the experience of sharing greetings and informal QSO's with other young people around the world via radio and computer.
Join us at Pacificon... Because the radio jamboree is an international event as well as an official scouting activity Scouts should be in uniform to attend. Scouts in uniform are admitted to the Pacificon convention FREE! (except for the Breakfast and Banquet events). Not a Scout? No problem you are still invited to participate. Patches to recognize your participation in this event as well as other material relating to JOTA and HAM radio operations will be available at our MDSC International Committee booth at this event.

| JAMBOREE ON THE INTERNET October 17-19, 2008 |
|
The Jamboree On The Internet grew out of the JOTA program when, in 1997 the WOSM recognized the importance of computer based communications in bringing Scouts around the world together. All that is needed to participate in the program is a Internet Relay Chat (IRC) program running on your computer and, of course, a connection to the internet.
Join us at Pacificon... Scouts who want to participate as part of a group experience are invited to drop by between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm Saturday (and later if there is a demand) to use these computers as well as get help and guidance in connecting to the many chat channels. Patches to recognize your participation in this event as well as other material relating to JOTI and internet chating in a "Kids Friendly" environment will be available at our MDSC International Committee booth at this event.

NOTICE
From the first Official Jamboree on the Internet in 1997 until 2004 this event was a WOSM program; not recognized nor sanctioned by the Boy Scouts of America. During this time period, this committee issued a patch each year recognizing participation in this event.
When the Boy Scouts of America finally recognized and embraced this program in 2005 they started issuing their own patch for the event. We could not and did not want to compete with this patch. Because of this, we ceased producing the local patch that year.
If you are one of those lucky first participants in this program and have some of our JOTI patches or, better yet, a full set of them, you now have a rare and unusual patch or patches. Cherish them for the recognition they represent from the very earliest days of this great event! |
